On February 25 2020, the HERA Group welcomed an SWR filming crew. For their science program "Odysso", they interviewed Jun.-Prof. Franziska Mathis-Ullrich and filmed the experimental setups in the HERA-Lab.

Vom 16.02.20 bis 18.02.20 fand die gemeinsame Klausurtagung der Lehrstühle IPR und HERA im Kurhaus Trifels, Annweiler, statt.

On January 30th and February 4th, we conducted a project at the Girls High School St.-Dominikus in Karlsruhe, where students of grade 9 could program the robots in our KUKA robot learning lab.

ree public access to our KUKA Robot Learning Lab at KIT is now available. The lab allows users to upload own robotics applications over the internet, which will be executed by the robots in the lab.

On November 20, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology organized the event "Uni für Einsteiger" ("University for Beginners"), where soon-to-be university-students had the chance to get an insight into teaching and research at the university. In the course of this event, IAR-IPR offered a lab tour and demonstrations.

On 14 November 2019, the second collective OpenLabDay of the projects RoboShield and CyberProtect was held at “Forschungszentrum Informatik (FZI)”, Karlsruhe. The event focused on safety, security and privacy in production and automation.

The 10th grade of the  Gymnasium Achern visited IPR on 13 November 2019 to gain an insight into the exciting field of robotics research.

On November 8, our colleagues Hosam Alagi und Prof. Björn Hein organized the second workshop on "Proximity Perception in Robotics" at the 2019 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) in Macao.

From 04 to 08 November 2019, a team from IAR-IPR attended 2019 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) in Macau (China). Our team had contributed three accepted papers and a workshop to the technical program. The event took place in Macao, China.

On October 23, 2019, Christian Kunz, Prof. Björn Hein and Jun.-Prof. Franziska Mathis-Ullrich were awarded the NEO 2019 Innovation award for the HoloMed project.

On October 17, our colleagues Pascal Meißner and Jonas Kiemel organized a workshop on "Transfer Learning" at the IEEE International Conference on Robot & Human Interactive Communication 2019 (RO-MAN) in New Delhi.

On October 11th, 2019, the first “Bunte Nacht der Digitalisierung” took place all over Karlsruhe. For IPR, Dr. Christoph Ledermann presented the idea and the operating principle of the KUKA Robot Learning Lab at the main booth of KIT.

At the first French-German conference on the application of artificial intelligence, AIxIA, Hosam Alagi and Gergely Sóti presented the autonomous robotic assistant project SINA.

From September 23rd to 25th the 61st International Symposium ELMAR-2019 was held.
Dennis Hartmann presented the paper "Spatial Control Actions for a Physical Training with a Smart Walker" (Authors: Denis Stogl, Peter Wern, Björn Hein and Dennis Hartmann) to show current research results in the context of the project RoSylerNT.

On September 23rd, 2019, IPR-employee Tom Huck presented the project "ROBOSHIELD" at Hightech Summit Baden-Württemberg.

From 19 to 21 September 2019, the Team Health Robotics and Automations (HERA) under lead of Prof. Mathis-Ullrich took part in the 18th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Computer- and Robot-Assisted Surgery (CURAC).

Vom 10.-13. September vertrat Yingbing Hua das IAR-IPR mit zwei Vorträgen auf der 24th IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA 2019) in Zaragoza, Spanien.

Vom 4. bis 6. September fand die European Conference on Mobile Robotics statt. Denis Štogl stellte mit dem Beitrag "Overview of a Robot for a Neuromuscular Training – RoboTrainer" (Autoren: D. Stogl, B. Hein, M. Mende) einen Teil der aktuellen Forschung im Projekt RoSylerNT vor.

Vom 3. bis 5. September nahm Yingbing Hua an der 29th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming (ILP 2019), in Bulgarien mit einem Vortrag zum Thema „Rapid Restart Hill Climbing for Learning Description Logic Concepts“ teil.

The online magazine TechXplore published its article "An algorithm to teach robots pre-grasping manipulation strategies" about current projects of Lars Berscheid at the IAR-IPR.

Unser ehemaliger Mitarbeiter Dr. Andreas Bihlmaier wurde mit dem renommierten Preis des Technology Review "Innovatoren unter 35" ausgezeichnet.

Die Stiftung zur Förderung der Wissenschaften an der Carolo-Wilhelmina zeichnet in diesem Jahr Dr. Niels Dehio mit dem renommierten Heinrich Büssing Preis aus.

On the 19th of July, fourteen members of IPR staff and students visited SEW-Eurodrive in Bruchsal to learn about the company's MAXOLUTION concept for factory automation. MAXOLUTION is an integrated approach to factory automation, involving manufacturing and assembly processes as well as material flow and handling applications.

Am 1. bis 5. Juli wurde in Zwentendorf (Österreich) bereits zum zweiten Mal der European Robotics Hackathon (EnRicH) ausgetragen. EnRicH bietet die einmalige Möglichkeit, die eigenen Robotersysteme in echten Szenarien testen zu können.

IAR-IPR-Mitarbeiter Dr. Niels Dehio hat den KHYS Research Travel Grant erhalten. Aufgrund seiner hervorragenden For-schungsergebnisse war er mit seiner Bewerbung auf den sechs-monatigen Auslands-aufenthalt erfolgreich.

Auf der 20. GMA/ITG Fachtagung „Sensoren und Messsysteme 2019“, die vom 25. bis 26. Juni in Nürnberg stattfand, stellte Woo-Jeong Baek im Rahmen der Sitzung „Sensorik für die Life Science“ im Vortrag „Study of Safe Sensor Configurations in Human Robot Collaboration” (Autoren: W.-J. Baek, C. Ledermann, T. Kröger, S. Huang, R. Kirsten) aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse von dem Projekt „RoboShield“ vor.

Ein Jahr nach Beginn der Arbeiten zum Aufbau des Kompetenzzentrums ROBDEKON (Robotersysteme für die Dekontamination in menschenfeindlichen Umge-bungen) fand am 25.06.2019 die Eröffnungsveranstaltung unter Teilnahme von vielen Personen aus Politik und Wissenschaft statt.

Mit dem Vortrag "Investigation on Combining 3D Convolution of Image Data and Optical Flow to Generate Temporal Action Proposals” (Autoren: P. Schlosser, D. Münch und M. Arens) nahm Patrick Schlosser vom 16. bis zum 20. Juni am "5th International Workshop on Computer Vision in Sports (CVsports)" auf der CVPR 2019 in Long Beach, Kalifor-nien, USA teil.

Vom 1. bis zum 5. April 2019 fand die Industriemesse Hannover statt, die von der Arbeitsgruppe Safety besucht wurde.

Das IAR-IPR organisierte am 28.03.2019 eine Führung für den Girls'Day. Zwei interessierte Schülerinnen wurden einen Tag lang durch die Labors des IPR geführt und konnten Fragen zu Industrie-, Service- und Medizinrobotik stellen.

Auf der Human Robot Interaction Konferenz (HRI 2019) von 11.03 - 14.03 in Daegu, Südkorea  präsentierte David Puljiz seine Forschungsergebnisse im Poster "Sensorless hand guidance using Microsoft HoloLens".

On February 26th, 2019, the representational office of Baden-Württemberg in Berlin and the American Embassy jointly hosted the event "Cybersicherheit im Mittelstand: Protecting Our Economies".

Das IAR-IPR begrüßt Dr. Niels Dehio als neuen Postdoc in Karlsruhe. Niels begeisterte sich bereits früh für Mathematik und besuchte als Schüler noch vor dem Abitur Vorlesungen an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt.

On August 16, Professor Kröger participated in the Technical Innovation Forum with a talk on "Robot Manipulation and Safe Collaboration: Real-time Motion Planning, Hybrid Control, and Reinforcement Learning". The forum was part of the World Robot Conference (WRC2018) in Beijing, China.

On July 15, Professor Kröger participated as a Keynote Speaker at the HCR 2018 Symposium in Shanghai with a lecture entitled "Safe Human-robot Collaboration: Real-time Motion Planning, Hybrid Control, and Reinforcement Learning".

The Members of the Bundestag Dr. Anna Christmann and Dr. Danyal Bayaz (both Alliance 90/The Greens) visited the IPR on July 13.

Dr. Pascal Meißner passed his doctoral exam with the topic "Indoor Scene Recognition by 3-D Object Search for Robot Programming by Demonstration".

On June 16th and 17th, the ZEISS and KIT Robotics Innovation Competition took place in Karlsruhe. The event was split into two parallel events – the scientist and students track and the start-up track.

On June 15th, the participants of the IAS-15-concluded their conference by a brief visit at the IPR for some demonstra-tions of the IPR’s research. The visitors were guided by Dr. Christoph Ledermann and Dr. David Oertel to watch demonstrations by David Puljiz, Jonas Kiemel, Wolfgang Wiedmeyer and Dr. Jörg Raczkowsky on Augmented Reality, Grapsing, the Robot Learning Lab and the Medical Robots Laboratory.

From 21st to 25th of May, Dr. David Oertel visited the University of Prague through the DAAD-program “Multi-Robot Systems in Complex Environments” for an exchange with the scientist of the “Multi-Robot System”-Laboratory.

Based on diligence and professionalism in the execution of your duties as Associate Editor for the 2018 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2018), Torsten received the “Best Associate Editor Award” at ICRA in Brisbane.

To honor his broad and creative contributions to conferences, technical activities, and industrial activities of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), Torsten received the IEEE RAS Distinguished Service Award 2018. The award was given at the 2018 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation in Brisbane, Australia.

On Thursday, the 17th of May 2018, several representatives of widely known European companies visited the IAR-IPR to get an image of the institute’s current research.

Am 7. Mai waren Schüler der 12. Klasse des Technischen Gymnasiums Waldshut mit Profilfach Informationstechnik am Institut zu Gast.

On April 26th, five girls from 8th and 9th grade high-school classes visited the IAR-IPR during the nationwide “Girls’ Day 2018”.

Vom 23. bis 27. April wird das IAR-IPR auf dem Hauptstand „Research & Technology“ der Hannover Messe 2018 mit seinen taktilen Näherungssensoren vertreten sein. Hosam Alagi wird die Technologie vor Ort vorstellen und erläutern. 

Am 20. April nahm Dr. Ilshat Mamaev an der 13. Interna-tionalen Konferenz zu Elektro-mechanik und Robotik “Zavalishins Readings“ (ER(ZR)-2018) in St. Petersburg, Russland mit einem eingeladenen Vortrag zum Thema "Intelligent Control in Service and Industrial Robotics" und mit einem Paper-Vortrag „Adaptive Particle Filter for Localization Problem in Service Robotics“ (A. Heilig, I. Mamaev, B. Hein und D. Malov) teil.

From 16th to 20Th of April a so-called BOGY internship took place at the IPR (vocational and study orientation for high-school students). Five interested students were given first insights into the everyday life of robotics as well as into the associated studies such as computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and mechatronics.

During the Udacity Intersect conference on Tuesday 27th March, the IPR presented the newly created Robot Learning Lab.

The second Offsite-Meeting of the IAR-IPR took place on March 6th in the panorama hall of the “house of economy” (IHK, Karlsruhe).

Im Rahmen eines KIT-Besuches war am 19. Februar 2018 eine Delegation der Queensland University of Technology (QUT) zu Gast am IAR-IPR. 

Dr. David Oertel passed his doctoral exam with the topic “Deep-sea Model-Aided Navigation Accuracy for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles using Online Calibrated Dynamic Models”.
The staff of the IAR-IPR congratulates him and wishes him the best for his future.

The 22nd special edition of the "Advanced Robotics" Journal has been released containing selected and extended papers of SIMPAR 2016.
Torsten Kroeger was the General Chair at the SIMPAR 2016 conference in San Francisco and Guest Editor of the Journal's Special Edition.

In december 2017, a delegation of the Ural Federal University (UrFU, Yekaterin-burg) visited the IAR-IPR.
The visiting group consisted of Prof. Alexandr Petunin, Prof. Aleksandr Sesekin, Dr. Dmitry Kurennov and Dr. Pavel Chentsov.

Providing a plenary talk on "Sensor-based Control, Real-time Motion Planning, and Reinforcement Learning for Industrial Robots" Professor Kroeger attended the IEEE / SICE International Symposium on System Integration (IEEE / SICE SII 2017) in Taipei (Taiwan) on December 12.

At the 3rd symposium "Robots in the Automotive Industry" Prof. Kröger gave a talk entitled "worker prog-rams robot friend". He presented concepts for multimodal robot program-ming to an interested audience. The symposium took place at the Dormero Hotel in Stuttgart from 28 to 29 November 2017.

On November 28, 2017, Professor Kröger participated as a keynote speaker at DGR Days 2017 in Bremen with an invited lecture on "Robot Manipulation: Real-time Motion Planning, Hybrid Control and Reinforcement Learning".

On 2017-11-22 our institute opened its doors to a robot-enthusiastic audience. A wide range of visitor – ranging from small children over students to pensioners – followed the live-demonstrations of robotics with curiosity and fascination, a lot of the demonstrations could even be experienced hands-on.

The IAR-IPR is organizing an open day in the context of the European Robotics Week 2017 on the 21st of November from 14:00 to 17:00. Students, pupils and interested public are cordially invited!

Auf der SDPS 2017, die vom 5. bis 9. November in Birmingham, Alabama in den USA stattfand, stellte Prof. Hein die im Rahmen der Session „Autonomous Systems and Machine Learning: Concepts, Techniques and Applications“ erste Erfahrungen mit Lern-verfahren bzgl. kapazitiven Sensortechnologie vor.

On Nov. 6th, Prof. Kröger participated at the open forum discussion of the Helmholtz Community. He presented a talk on Assitance systems „Assistenzsysteme – brauchen wir Assistenten in unserem Leben?“ in the Telefónica BASECAMP in Berlin. 

On November 2nd and 3rd, Prof. Kröger participated at the “Singapore: Can We Assume a Leadership Role for the Regions?” symposium by providing a presentation titled “A Perspective from North America Europe: Evolution Robotics Software for Products and Ecosystems”. The symposium was part of the Singapore International Robo Expo (SIRE) 2017 and was held within the Sands Expo & Convention Centre.
Additionally, Torsten participated at an open forum on perspectives and development of robot technologies. 

Prof. Kröger and Dr. Raczkowsky represent the IAR-IPR with two talks on „Ways Towards Functional Safety in Autonomous Surgical Robots“ and „Attentive OR - autonomy aspects“ at the Workshop “Roadmap to autonomous robotic surgery” at the University of Verona.

With his invited talk on "Learning Robots – Approaches for Solving Actual Problems" on October 26th, Prof. Kröger participated in the Forum „Neue Ansätze in Forschung & Wissenschaft“ („New approaches in research and science“) from the 3rd conference on Maschinelles Lernen in der Produktion („Machine Learning in Manufacturin“) in Lemgo. 

On October 25th, Prof. Kröger participated in the Springer Nature Life & Robotics Live Discussion „Understanding Humanity to Inspire Robots Designed to Assist Humans“.
Worldwide leading Robotics experts both from science and industry discussed topics like human-robot interaction, the role of the industry within robotics as well as its future trends.

Auf dem Forum Mensch-Roboter in Stuttgart am 23./24. Oktober berichtete Prof. Hein über die aktuellen Entwicklungen im EU-Projekt SafeLog, erläuterte Einsatzszenarien von kapazitiven Näherungssensoren und nahm an der anschließenden Experten-Diskussion teil. 

On October 20th, the IPR organized an entire day of scientific honorary colloqium dedicate to the retirement of our former head of institute, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heinz Wörn. The event took place within the Gartensaal of Karlsruhe's castle.

Report of the Department of Informatics

Torsten gave a keynote about machine learning in the mechanical engineering industry from a US perspective. The executive meeting - 9. Deutscher Maschinenbau-Gipfel - with representatives from media, politics and industry took place in Berlin during Oct. 17-18.

Computer science students are invited to attend the new class, "Industry 4.0", by Professor Torsten Kroeger. The class will be held in the seminar room of Building 40.28 and will start in the Winter Term of 2017/18 on October 20.

Torsten gave a keynote presentation during the SICE luncheon at the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2017) in Vancouver, Canada. He presented "Recent Developments in Real-Time Robot Motion Planning".

From 14.09.2017-20.09.2017 our scientific staff Luzie Schreiter and David Puljiz visited the University of Zagreb (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) as part of the DAAD program "Localization of People and Naming Behavior Based on Support Sensors".

In a collaborative outreach project of the KIT Department of Computer Science and the student councils of Computer Science and Mathematics, we have seen a whole week full of classes, labs, and games for high school students.
Torsten offered a two-hour hands-on lecture "A Sneak Peek into Robotics Foundations" offering insights into the exciting world of robotics.

For the third time, the World Robot Conference took place in Beijing, China during Augsut 23-27 (WRC 2017). Torsten was invited to give a keynote on “Sensor-based Control and Real-time Motion Planning for Industrial Robots”. On the day before the conference, he gave a guest lecture at a workshop at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). His talk was titled “Robotics: From Programming to Learning”.

On July 21th a first meeting with the partners of the project SINA took place at the IAR-IPR. SINA is funded by the BMBF and its scope is related to the development of fundamental interaction skills of autonomous robots for realizing assistive functions.

Am Di., 18 Juli findet im Rahmen der Vorlesung „Echtzeitsysteme“ von Prof. Torsten Kröger (15:45 Uhr, HS Neue Chemie, Geb. 30.46) eine Gastvorlesung zum Thema „Qualitätskontrolle der Echtzeiteigenschaften des Linuxkernels in der OSADL QA-Farm“ von Dr. Carsten Emde vom Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL) eG (www.osadl.org) statt, zu welcher Studierende herzlich eingeladen sind. 

„Intraoperative Phasenerkennung zur Integration von Assistenz-systemen in den chirurgischen Arbeitsablauf“ lautet der Titel der Dissertation von Frau Dr. Luzie Schreiter, die sie erfolgreich vor Prüfungs-kommission verteidigt hat. Die Mitarbeiter des Instituts gratulieren herzlich zur bestandenen Promotions-prüfung und wünschen ihr für die weitere Zukunft alles Gute. 

Prof. Kröger held a plenary lecture entitled „Autonomous Robots Increase Flexibility and Growth in Production and Logistics” At the VDI Conference on Autonomous Systems in Production and Logistics 2017, which took place during July 12-13, 2017 at the ACHAT Plaza Hotel in Karlsruhe, Germany.

From 11th to 21st of July, IAR-IPR was visited by Matej Petrlik from Prague university for a research exchange.
Matej is a member of Multi Robot System group of Czech Technical University in Prague. The topic of his master’s thesis is the design of fast motion planning methods for real time planning of UAVs in environments with obstacles.

Im Rahmen der Veranstaltung „NEULAND – Der Innovationstag am KIT“ am 28.06.2017 im Audimax wurden ausgewählte Innovationen aus dem KIT den Besuchern vorgestellt.
Hosam Alagi präsentierte Sensoren, die im Rahmen des DFG Projektes „TNS“ entwickelt wurden. 

Dr. Jörg Raczkowsky nahm am 28. Juni am Workshop "From Surgical Workflow to Cognitive Surgery" im Rahmen des "Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics" in London teil. 

Giving an invited talk about "Robotics in North America", Professor Kroeger took part in the AUTOMATION congress on June 27th at the 6th VDI Conference on "Industrial Robotics 2017" at Kongresshaus Baden-Baden.

On June 22nd, Professor Kroeger attended the conference "Assistenzrobotik und Mensch-Roboter-Kollaboration" at Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation (IFF) at the Fraunhofer Institute IFF in Magdeburg. He gave an invited presentation about "Robotics developments and trends in Silicon Valley".

ICRA 2017 took place in Singapore, and Torsten gave an invited talk about ”Robot Manipulation: Real-time Motion Planning for Industrial Manipulators” in the Workshop on “Recent Advances in Dynamics for Industrial Applications”.

Dr.-Ing. Hendrikje Pauer participated on the conference „Innovative Metrology 2017“ that took place on 5th of May in Vienna. The conference connects industry and research.

The IPR-internal conference 2017 took place at the Polytechnical Institute "Peter the Great" in St. Petersburg, supervised by the new Institute's head, Prof. Torsten Kröger. In cooperation with the local Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, employees presented their current research focus.

Auf dem ERF 2017 in Schottland war das IAR-IPR im März dieses Jahres durch Björn Hein und Jörg Raczkowsky vertreten. 

Das IAR-IPR war in diesem Jahr von 20.03 bis 24.03.17 mit seinen im Rahmen eines DFG Projekts entwickelten taktilen Näherungssensoren (TNS) auf der CeBIT in Hannover vertreten.

Am Kooperationsstand des KIT und des FZI wurden den Besucher von M. Sc. Hosam Alagi, Dr. Ilshat Mamaev und Prof. Dr.-Ing. Björn Hein mithilfe eines interaktiven Demonstrators die Fähig-keiten der Sensortechnologie buchstäblich erfüllbar gemacht. 

Bei einer kleinen Feier am 16. März überreichte Professor Wörn unserer langjährigen Mitarbeiterin Elke Franzke die von der Vizepräsidentin für Personal und Recht Christine von Vangerow in Namen des Landesregierung unterzeichnete Dankurkunde zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum im öffentlichen Dienst. 

65 pupils from the advanced level of the IT school Stuttgart visited the faculty for computer science of the KIT on 08.02.2017.

Dr. Hendrikje Pauer has successfully completed her doctoral examination on "Metrical and Differential Geometrical Concept Based New Mathematical Algorithms for Data Fusion with the Application in Fiber-Bragg-Grating Shape Sensing". The staffs of the institute congratulate and wish her all the best for the future.

Luzie Schreiter took part in the first ThinkCamps 2017 in Frankfurt from 20 to 22 January, where she and other participants discussed the ideas developed in group work on the use of robots in network medicine.

Dr. Raczkowsky guided the guests through the institute labs.

From 9 to 14 Oktober Professor Hein attended the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2016) in Daejeon, Korea with a lecture on „3D Contour Following for a Cylindrical End-Effector Using Capacitive Proximity Sensors“ (authors: S. Escaida Navarro, S. Koch, B. Hein). 

With his lecture „Deep Net Localization - Eavesdropping in Mobile Acoustic Underwater Sensor Networks” (authors: S. Neumann, D. Oertel, H. Wörn) Sergej Neumann attended the conference Techno-Ocean 2016 from 6 to 8 October 2016 in Kobe, Japan.

On 1 October the workshop "Perspectives and Challenges in Mathematical Sciences" took place as part of the 5th Japanese-German University Presidents' (HeKKSaGOn) Conference. The workshop was held at the Institute of Algebra and Geometry of the Faculty of Mathematics at KIT. 

Hendrikje Pauer and Luzie Schreiter presented the IAR-IPR at the 15th annual conference of the German Society for Computer- and Robotic-Assisted Surgery (CURAC 2016) in Bern from 29 September to 1 October with a lecture and a poster.

Sergej Neumann presented research results from the SMIS project with his lecture “Self-Localization by Eavesdropping in Acoustic Underwater Sensor Networks” (authors: S. Neumann, D. Oertel, H. With his lecture „Reducing elevation angle errors of long-range deep-sea acoustic localization by ray tracing and depth measurements” (authors: D. Oertel, S. Neumann, H. Wörn, M. Golz, J. J. Waniek) David Oertel attended the IEEE International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM 2016) from 12 to 15 July 2016 in Banff, Alberta, Canada.

On July 9, the 5th Robotics Alumni Meeting took place at the Research Center for Computer Science (FZI). 32 alumni from various robotic research groups of Informatics Karlsruhe met for an exchange on scientific topics.

From July 5 to July 8, 2016 Hendrikje Pauer took part in the conference FUSION 2016 in Heidelberg.

 Professor Wörn presented research results from a project with his lecture „ A haptic display for the simulation of soft tissue palpation in CHAI3D” (authors: J. Hergenhan und H. Wörn) at the 10th International Conference on Interfaces and Human Computer Interaction, (IHCI 2016) in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal on the 2th July 2016.

The German Society for Robotics (DGR) organized its conference in Leipzig during the RoboCup from June 29th to 30th. The aim of the event was that the Ph.D. students introduce their topics and discuss their methods.

At the CARS 2016 in Heidelberg (Germany) from the 21st to 25th of June, the IAR-IPR was represented by Luzie Schreiter.

Auf Einladung des IAR-IPR besuchte am 23. Mai 2016 eine Delegation der National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST or Taiwan Tech) unser Institut. 

Between May 9th and 20th 2016, the final “at-sea” trials and demonstrations of the BMWi project “Subsea Monitoring via Intelligent Swarms“ (SMIS) took place.

Our research assistant Hendrikje Pauer visited CRCMining and the School of Mechanical & Mining Engineering at the University of Queensland for three months between February and April 2016.

David Puljiz and Yingbing Hua presented a demonstrator of the project ReApp at the Hannover Messe from 25. to 29. April 2016. The demonstrator shows a robot system for semi-automated soldering of LED stripes, which is developed under model-driven concept of software development for robotics.

On April 19, our institute opened ist labs for a group of 7 journalists of the South-China Daily News. 

Vom 18. bis 20. April nahm Professor Wörn an der 18th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference - MELECON 2016 mit einem Vortrag zum Thema „Robot Activity Adaptation for Safe Human- Robot Collaboration based on Probabilistic Risk Modeling“ (Autoren: F. Dittrich, H. Wörn) in Limassol, Cyprus teil. 

At April 15, IAR-IPR organized a tour through the institutes` laboratories for newly employed co-workers.

A high-ranking delegation form the Budapest University of Technology and Economics visited our institute on April 14. 

At the 22. MMVR in Los Angeles from the 7th to 9th of April, the IAR-IPR was presented by PhD-student Luzie Schreiter. She presented her research paper „3D Perception Technologies for Surgical Operating Theatres“. 

The three IPR graduates, Dr. Andreas Bihlmaier, Dr. Jens Liedke and Dr. Julien Mintenbeck, found the startup  robodev to individualize industrial automation.

Am Freitag, 01.04.2016, fanden Studenten, Mitarbeiter und Besucher des IPR-IAR im Foyer anstelle des medizinisch zertifizierten Roboterexponats "RX90" nur einen abgesperrten Tatort vor. 

Our research assistant Hendrikje Pauer is presently visiting this institution and the Labor Fibre Optic Sensing Applications Laboratory of Dr. Saiied Aminossadati for common research on FBG based shape sensing. 

Am 03.03.2016 öffnete das IAR-IPR seine Labore für die Teilnehmer des HEIKA-Begut-achtungstreffens und präsentierte seine Forschungsprojekte.

On 25.11., the publich relations and marketing department of KIT (PKM) visited the OR lab of IAR-IPR.They recorded video footage of both the OP:Sense research platform for robot-assisted surgery and the autonomous endoscope camera guidance that was developed in the  TCRC 125.

Auf der 14. Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Computer- und Roboter-assistierte Chirurgie e. V. (CURAC 2015) in Bremen (17. - 19. September 2015) präsentierten Andreas Bihlmaier, Jessica Hutzl und Luzie Schreiter ihre Forschungsergebnisse in 3 Vorträgen.

Prof. Wörn hielt einen Vortrag mit dem Titel „Cognition Guidance in Robotics and Surgery” auf dem 59. Österreichischen HNO-Kongress 2015 der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Hals-, Nasen- und Ohrenheilkunde, Kopf- und Halschirurgie, der vom 16. bis 20. September in Innsbruck, Österreich stattfand.

Vom 8. bis 11. September nahm Julien Mintenbeck an der Konferenz ETFA 2015 in Luxemburg mit einem Vortrag zum Thema „Microman - Autonomous Omni-Directional Microrobot-System for Biotechnological and Miniaturized Automation“ (Autoren: Julien Mintenbeck, Michael Uhl, Ramon Estaña and Heinz Wörn) teil.

Vom 6. bis 9. September nahm Professor Wörn an der Konferenz CLAWAR 2015  in Hangzhou, China mit einem Vortrag zum Thema „Towards deep-sea monitoring with SMIS - Experimental trials of deep-sea acoustic locali-zation“ teil (Autoren: S. Der Beitrag “Closed-loop Control of a Flexible Instrument using an integrated FBG-based Shape Sensor", der Autoren C. Ledermann, J. Mintenbeck,  Y. Ding, H. Pauer, H. Wörn  wurde auf der International Conference on Advanced Technology & Sciences (ICAT'15), die vom 4. bis 7. August in Antalya, Türkei stattfand, mit Best Paper Award ausgezeichnet.

Mit dem Vortrag „Continuous Pre-Calculation of Human Tracking with Time-delayed Ground-truth - A Hybrid Approach to Minimizing Tracking Latency by Combination of Different 3D Cameras“, (Autoren: P. Nicolai, J. Raczkowsky, H. Wörn) nahm Professor Wörn vom 21. bis zum 23. Juli an der 12th International Conference on Informatics in Control, Automation and Robotics (ICINCO 2015) in Colmar, Frankreich teil.

Professor Wörn präsentierte Forschungsergebnisse aus dem SFB/Transregio 125 - Cognition-Guided Surgery – Wissens- und modellbasierte Chirurgie im Vortrag “Learning Surgical Know-How: Dexterity for a Cognitive Endoscope Robot” (Autoren: A. Bihlmaier und H. Wörn) auf der 7th IEEE International Conference on Cybernetics and Intelligent Systems (CIS) und 7th IEEE International Conference on Robotics, Automation and Mechatronics (RAM) (CIS & RAM 2015), die vom 15. bis17. Am 02. Juli besuchte Professor Gregory Hager von der Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore das IAR-IPR.

Am 27. Juni im Rahmen des Tages der offenen Tür am KIT fand am IAR-IPR das 4. Alumni-Treffen statt.

Nach der Begrüßung durch den Vorsitzenden des Alumni-Clubs Prof. Wörn fand die Mitgliederversammlung des Robotik-Alumni-Clubs statt.

Wir gratulieren herzlich Andreas Bihlmaier, Philip Nicolai und ihre medizinischen Kollegen Martin Wagner und Patrick Mietkowski zur Auszeichnung für die beste live Demonstration auf dem Hamlyn Symposium 2015 in London.

Am 17.06.2015 öffneten unsere medizinischen Gruppen MeGI und CoMeT ihre Labore für die Teilnehmer des zweiten deutsch-korea-nischen Workshops zur medizinischen Bildverar-beitung und wissensbasierter Chirurgie und präsentierten ihre Forschungsergebnisse.

Auf Einladung von Professor Wörn organisierte unser Institut am 12.06.2015 eine Führung für aktive und ehemalige Führungskräfte von Unternehmen und Gewerkschaften.

Vom 3. bis 5. Juni nahm Professor Wörn an der Konferenz ISIE 2015 in Buzios, Brasilien mit einem Vortrag zum Thema „Support and imaging tasks using an ultrasound-based navigation procedure for minimally invasive neck surgery: Experiments and analyse“ teil (Autoren: Thorsten Brennecke und Heinz Woern).

Christoph Ledermann und Hendrikje Pauer nahmen an der 4. Tagung Innovation Messtechnik 2015 in Wien teil.

Am 22. Mai besuchte eine Studentengruppe der Universität Cartagena aus Kolumbien das IAR-IPR.

Sergei Neumann empfing die Gruppe und führte sie durch unsere Labore.

Hendrikje Pauer  nahm an den „AMA Conferences 2015“  vom 19. bis 21. Mai in Nürnberg im Convention Center (NCC West) teil.

Prof. Wörn hielt einen Vortrag mit dem Titel „Processing Tracking Quality Estimations in a Mixed Local‐Global Risk Model for Safe Human Robot Collaboration“ (Autoren: Frank Dittrich und Heinz Wörn) auf dem Austrian Robotics Workshop (ARW 2015), der von 7 bis 8 May in Alpen-Adria Universität Klagenfurt (AAU), Austria stattfand.

Die weltweit bedeutendste Industriemesse Hannover Messe fand in diesem Jahr von 13. Bis 17. April statt.

Luzie Schreiter stellte im Rahmen der CTAC Sitzung auf dem 45. Kongress der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Endoskopie und Bildgebende Verfahren am 28.3.2015 die Arbeiten der Megi Gruppe zum Thema „ Situations-abhängige Steuerung von roboterassistierten Interventionen“ vor.

Dipl-Ing. (FH) M.Sc. Stephan Irgenfried und Dipl.-Ing. Jessica Hutzl betreuten für eine Woche (23.03-27.03.15) zwei Schüler während ihres Praktikums am IAR-IPR.

Vom 23. März bis zum 25. März nahm Luzie Schreiter an dem 4. Interdisziplinärer Workshop für Kognitive Systeme in Bielefeld am CITEC teil.

Am 20. März begrüßten unsere Mitarbeiter am IAR-IPR Teilnehmer des Deutsch-Japanischen Workshops, der im Rahmen einer Kooperation zwischen dem KIT und  dem National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Karlsruhe stattfand.

Herr Prof. Wörn wurde am 18.03.2015 für die langjährige wissenschaftliche Zusammenarbeit mit der Staatlichen Technischen Universität für Luftfahrt in Ufa mit der Ehrendoktorwürde ausgezeichnet.

Die jährliche Klausurtagung fand in diesem Jahr vom 09.03. bis 12.03.2015 in Radstadt, Österreich statt. Die Doktoranten präsentierten ihre aktuellen Forschungsarbeiten vor dem Institutsleiter Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wörn und ihren Kollegen.

Im Rahmen des 61ten GfA-Frühjahrskongresses 2015 organisierte das IAR-IPR am 25.02.2015 eine Führung durch seine Labore für die Kongressteilnehmer. 

Frau Hendrikje Pauer begrüßte die Gäste am IPR, gab eine Einführung in unsere Forschungsbereiche und führte die Gäste durch die IAR-IPR-Labore.

Die 6. International Conference on Automation, Robotics und Applications (ICARA 2015) fand dieses Jahr vom 17.-19. Februar 2015 in Queenstown, Neuseeland statt. Prof Heinz Wörn und seine Mitarbeiterin Dipl.-Ing. Jessica Hutzl hielten dort jeweils einen Vortrag im Bereich „Health Systems“.

16.01.2015: Für die Sendung "made in Südwest" drehte das SWR Fernsehen einen Bericht über aktuelle Forschungen am KIT.

Das Institutskolloquium 2014 fand am 18. Dezember im Seminarraum des IPR statt.

Mit dem Beitrag “Context-Sensitive Natural Language Generation for Human Readable Event Logs based on Situation Awareness in Human-Robot Cooperation” (Autoren: Stephan Puls, Daniel Lemcke and Heinz Wörn) präsentierte Prof. Wörn aktuelle Forschungs-ergebnisse des IAR-IPR aus dem Bereich Mensch-Roboter Kooperation auf der Konferenz URAI 2014, die vom 12. bis 15. November in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia stattfand.

Am 6. November fand am CNR in Mailand eine live-Demonstration innerhalb des EU-Projekts ACTIVE statt, zu der auch Reviewer und Projektbeauftragte aus Brüssel und den USA zugeschaltet waren. Die IAR-IPR Arbeitsgruppe MeGI zeigte hierbei kamerabasierte Mensch- und Zustandserkennung und stellte die Roboteransteuerung für haptische Telemanipulation bei neurochirurgischen Applikationen zur Verfügung.

Auf Einladung des KIT besuchte am 3. November 2014 eine hochrangige Delegation der National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST or Taiwan Tech) das IAR-IPR.

Am 30.10.2014 besuchte eine Delegation von Mitarbeitern der Firma Siemens AG das KIT und das IAR-IPR.

Vom 24. bis zum 26. Oktober besuchte Dipl. Inform. Philip Nicolai die International Conference on Robotics and Computer Vision (ICRCV 2014) in Peking, China.

Im Rahmen eines 1-wöchigen Seminars für Hochschul-administratoren aus verschiedenen amerikanischen Hochschulen (u.a. Harvard University, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Georgia Institute of Technology etc.) in Heidelberg wurde eine Besichtigung am KIT organisiert.

Professor Wörn präsentierte Forschungsergebnisse aus den Projekten SYMBRION und REPLICATOR im Vortrag “Advantages of a Dedicated Drive Unit for Modular Self-reconfigurable Robots” (Autoren: J. Liedke und H. Wörn) auf der International Conference on Mechatronics Technology (ICMT2014) in Taipei, Taiwan am 22. Oktober 2014.

Vom 21.-24.10.2014 betreute Stephan Irgenfried 3 Schüler im Rahmen des Informatik-BoGy der Fakultät für Informatik am KIT.

Derzeit sind noch weitere Plätze für alle 3 Praktika frei. Interessenten können am Montag, 20.10. direkt zur Vorbesprechung "Algorithmen und Medizin" und am 27.10 - "Robotik und Automation I und II" kommen.

Am 17.10.2014 organisierte das IAR-IPR eine Führung für neu angestellte KIT-Mitarbeiter.

Das IEEE internationale Symposium "Robotic and Sensors Enviroment (ROSE 2014)" fand dieses Jahr vom 16. bis zum 18. Oktober in Timisoara, Rumänien statt. Die Mitarbeiter Mirko Kunze und Jessica Hutzl hielten jeweils einen Vortrag zum Thema Robotik.

Von 15. bis 17. Oktober nahm Professor Wörn an der Konferenz ICRoM 2014 in Iran mit einem Vortrag zum Thema „Analysis of Tactile Imprints for Multi-Fingered Robot Hands“ teil.

Am 14. Oktober gratulierte Professor Wörn unserem langjährigen Mitarbeiter Hartmut Regner zum 40-jährigen Jubiläum im öffentlichen Dienst und überreichte in einer kleinen Feierstunde die von Minister-präsidenten Herrn Winfried Kretschmann unterzeichnete Dankurkunde.

Vom 28.-30. September 2014 nahm unsere Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin Hendrikje Pauer an der 2014 IEEE Ninth International Conference on Multisensor Fusion and Information Integration (MFI) in Peking teil.

Am 23. September besuchte Gruppe von 6 Professoren und Mitarbeitern der NUDT (National University of Defense Technology) aus China das IAR-IPR.

Dem HEiKA Projekt "Technische Unterstützung zur motorischen Aktivierung von Menschen mit beginnender Demenz" wurde in Ausgabe 3/2014 des LookKIT-Magazins ein Artikel gewidmet (Seiten 68 - 70).

Professor Wörn hat auf dem 16th International Workshop on Computer Science and Information Technologies (CSIT´14), das vom 17. bis 22. September in Sheffield, England stattgefunden hat, den "Best Report Award" für den Beitrag “Robot System for Decontamination of nuclear power plants” (Autoren: M. Mende, S. Notheis, D. Stogl, B. Hein, H. Wörn, P. Kern, S. Gentes) gewonnen.

Professor Björn Hein und Stefan Escaida Navarro vertraten das IAR-IPR auf der 2014 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2014), die vom 14. bis 18. September in Chicago, Illinois, USA stattfand.

Vom 11. bis zum 13. September 2014 fand die 13. Jahrestagung der CURAC 2014 in München statt, wobei das IPR stark vertreten war.

Vom 25. bis 29. August 2014 besuchte Professor Wörn das 23rd IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (IEEE RO-MAN '14) in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, wo er für den Vortrag “Plausibility Verification for Situation Awareness in Safe Human-Robot Cooperation” Autoren: S. Puls, H. Wörn) für den Kazuo Tanie Award nominiert wurde.

Vom 22. - 24. Juli 2014 nahm unser wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter Sergej Neumann an der Konferenz "Simulation of Adaptive Behavior (SAB 2014) teil.

Professor Wörn vertrat das IAR-IPR von 21. bis 23. Juli mit 2 Vorträgen auf der 17th International Conference on Cimbing and Walking Robots and the Support Technologies for Mobile Machines (CLAWAR 2014) in Poznań, Poland.

Das studentische Softwareprojekt "QueryMe", das ihm Rahmen des Bachelor-Moduls "Praxis der Softwareentwicklung" im WS 13/14 durchgeführt wurde, ist auf dem Tag der Informatik am 18. Juli 2014 einer breiten Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt worden.

„Situationsverstehen für die Risikobeurteilung bei der Mensch-Roboter-Kooperation“ lautet der Titel der Dissertation von Dr. Stephan Puls, die er erfolgreich vor Prüfungs-kommission verteidigt hat. Wir gratulieren herzlich zur bestandenen Promotions-prüfung und wünschen ihm alles Gute.

Die 13th International Conference on Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS-13) fand vom 15. bis 19. Juli 2014 in Padua, Italien, statt.

Das IAR-IPR war von 8. bis 11. Juli mit 2 Vorträgen auf der 2014 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM 2014) in Besançon, Frankreich vertreten.

Dr. Lutz Winkler hat erfolgreich seine Promotionsprüfung zum Thema „Grundlagen zur Steuerung mobiler, modularer, selbst-rekonfigurierbarer Roboter“ absolviert. Die Mitarbeiter des Instituts gratulieren herzlich und wünschen ihm alles Gute für die weitere Zukunft.

Im Rahmen der Auslandsreise besuchte eine Delegation von 13 Professoren und Mitarbeitern der Föderalen Universität des Urals (UrFU, Jekaterinburg) vom 30. Juni bis 1. Juli das KIT und das IAR-IPR.

Vom 25. - 27. Juni 2014 besuchte unsere wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin Luzie Schreiter die „13th European Control Conference (ECC 2014)“, welche in Straßburg abgehalten wurde.

At the „IEEE International Symposium on Medical Measurements and Appli-cations (MeMea 2014)“, IAR-IPR was represented with two scientific researchers.

Hendrikje Pauer nahm an der 17. ITG/GMA Fachtagung „Sensoren und Messsysteme 2014“ vom 3. bis 4. Juni in Nürnberg Convention Center (NCC West) teil.

From June 2nd to June 6th, 2014, our scientific member Christoph Ledermann attended the „23rd International Conference on Optical Fibre Sensors (OFS´23)“, which was held in Santander, Spain.

Das IAR-IPR war mit drei Beiträgen auf der gemein-samen Konferenz des 45. International Symposium on Robotics (ISR 2014) und der 8. German Conference on Robotics (ROBOTIK 2014) vertreten.

Diese fand vom 2. bis 3. Juni 2014 zusammen mit AUTOMATICA Messe in München statt.

Vom 21.-24. April fand die diesjährige „IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Sensors, Sensor Networks and Information Processing (IEEE ISSNIP 2014)“ statt, bei der die beiden Wissen-schaftler Christoph Ledermann und Hendrikje Pauer das IAR-IPR vertraten.

Im Zeitraum vom 31.03.2014 bis 06.04.2014 besuchten Studenten und Mitarbeiter der Föderalen Universität des Urals (UrFU, Jekaterinburg) unser Institut.

From March 31st to April the 3rd the Mid-Term-Review for the EU-project SkillPro was held at the IPR.

Im Rahmen des AIM Frühjahrsforums 2014 am 28.03.2014 organisierte das IPR eine Führung durch die Labore für die Forumsteilnehmer.

Am Donnerstag, den 20. März 2014 fand in der Gartenhalle der jährliche KIT-Jahres-empfang mit dem Titel „Mensch und Technik/Digitale Gesellschaft“ statt.

Das IPR war in diesem Jahr mit dem „OP:Sense-System für roboterassistierte Chirurgie“ von 10.03 bis 14.03.2014 auf der weltweit größten Messe für Informa-tionstechnik CeBIT 2014 in Hannover vertreten.

Die Klausurtagung fand dieses Jahr vom 24.02. bis 28.02.2014 in Wagrain, Österreich statt. Die Doktoranten stellten auf dieser institutsinternen Tagung ihre aktuellen Ergebnisse in ihren jeweiligen Forschungsprojekten vor dem Institutsleiter Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wörn und ihren Kollegen vor.

„Optical Coherence Tomography guided Laser Cochleostomy“ lautet der Titel der Dissertation von Dr. Yaokun Zhang, die er erfolgreich vor Prüfungskommission verteidigt hat. Wir gratulieren herzlich zur bestandenen Promotionsprüfung und wünschen ihm alles Gute.

Dr. Simon Notheis hat erfolgreich seine Promotionsprüfung zum Thema „Entwurf und Umsetzung eines flexiblen Frameworks zur intuitiven, AR-gestützten Steuerung von Robotern“ absolviert. Wir gratulieren herzlich und wünschen ihm für die weitere Zukunft viel Erfolg.

Im Rahmen der Laborbesuche am KIT besuchten die Teilnehmer des 2-ten Karlsruher Forums zu Anthropomatik und Robotik am 23.01.2014 das IPR.

Am Freitag, 24.01.2014 um 21 Uhr findet im ZKM_Kubus das Multimediale Konzert des Matthias Ockert's Polytheistic Ensemble re.flex „Jazz, Klassik und Video“ statt.

Am 18. Dezember 2013 fand das Institutskolloquium 2013 statt.
Prof. Wörn und Prof. Hein berichteten über den wichtigsten Ereignisse aus Lehre und Forschung im Jahr 2013.

Am 13. Dezember 2013 waren Tim Beyl und Stefan Escaida Navarro an der Fakultät für Informatik der Universidad Austral de Chile zu Gast.

Vom 3. bis 5. Dezember besuchte Hendrikje Pauer die ICST 2013 (International Conference of Sensing Technology) in Wellington, Neuseeland.

From November 28 to 30 the CURAC 2013 took place in Innsbruck, where IPR was heavily represented.

Am 28.11.2013 besuchten Mitglieder des KIT-Business- Clubs erneut das IPR. Unsere wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter führten die Gäste aus verschiedenen Firmen durch die Labore des IPR.

Vom 25. bis zum 29. November 2013 besuchten Tim Beyl und Stefan Escaida Navarro die Konferenz ICAR 2013 an der Universidad de la República del Uruguay in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Am Samstag, den 16.11.2013, begrüßten die Mitarbeiter des IPRs aus dem Bereich Medizintechnik eine Gruppe von Bachelorstipen-diaten des DAAD RISE Programms.

Von 12 bis 15 November vertrat Professor Wörn das IPR mit zwei Vorträgen auf der 6th IEEE International Conference on Cybernetics and Intelligent Systems (CIS 2013) und 6th IEEE International Conference on Robotics, Automation and Mechatronics (RAM 2013) in Manila, Philippines.

Dr. Jörg Raczkowsky, Frank Dittrich und Stefan Escaida Navarro visisted the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS2013) in Tokyo, Japan, from November 3rd to November 8th.

Am 8. November besuchte eine Gruppe neuangestellter KIT-Mitarbeiter das IPR.

Auf dem 1. BMBF-Zukunftskongress Demografie mit dem Thema "Technik zum Menschen bringen" in Berlin von 21. bis 22. Oktober stellte Stephan Irgenfried in der Session "Intuitive Interaktion: Schnittstellen für alle Sinne" das Verbundprojekt AMIKA aus dem Förderschwerpunkt "Mensch-Technik-Interkation im demografischen Wandel" vor.

Prof. Wörn präsentierte am 17. Oktober Forschungs-ergebnisse aus dem Projekt „Haptisches Display“ mit dem Vortrag „Design and Evaluation of Supporting Features for Tactile Feedback“ (Autoren: Jan Hergenhan, Markus Mehrwald, Heinz Wörn) auf der Konferenz ICMT2013 in Jeju Island, Korea.

Prof. Wörn hielt einen Vortrag mit dem Titel „Motion Control and Fall Prevention for an Active Walker Mobility Aid“ (Autoren: S. Irgenfried, H. Wörn) auf der Second Conference on Mechanisms, Transmissions and Applications, MeTrApp 2013, die von 2 bis 4 October in Bilbao, Spanien stattfand.

Das Final Review Meeting der EU Projekte SYMBRION und REPLICATOR fand von 25 bis 27. September 2013 im Institut für Parallele und Verteilte Systeme (IPVS) in Stuttgart statt.

Professor Wörn wurde auf der Konferenz CSIT´2013, die von 15 bis 21 September in Wien-Budapest-Bratislava stattgefunden hat, für seinen Vortrag „Robotics research at KIT“ als „Bester Vortrag“ ausgezeichnet.

Das IPR war von 5. bis 7. September mit 2 Vorträgen auf der 25th International Conference of the Society for Medical Innovation and Technology (SMIT 2013) in Baden-Baden vertreten.

Julien Mintenbeck  und Jens Liedke  besuchten von 9 bis 12 Juli die 2013 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM 2013 ) in Wollongong, Australien.

Andreas Bihlmaier attended the 9th International Workshop on Robot Motion and Control (IEEE) that took place in Wasowo Palace Poland on 3-5. June.

On 29 June 2013 the second Alumni Meeting took place at IPR. It was attended by about thirty former and current institute members who were offered the opportunity to catch up on recent developments of KIT and its institutes.

Von 26. bis 29. Juni 2013 nahmen die Mitarbeiter der MeGI-Gruppe bei dem internationalen Kongress CARS 2013 in Heidelberg teil.

Von 22. bis 25. Juni 2013 besuchten Luzie Schreiter und Tim Beyl das 6. Symposium on Hameln Medical Robotics in der Royal Academy of Engineering in London.

Wir gratulieren Herrn Dr. Rene Matthias zur erfolgreichen Absolvierung der Promotionsprüfung mit dem Thema: "An Integrated Communications-Architecture for Multi-Modular Self-Recon-figurable Robots". Für die weitere Zukunft wünschen wir ihm alles Gute.

Das dreijährige EU-Projekte "Patient Safety in Robotic Surgery" (SAFROS) fand am 28. und 29. Mai 2013 seinen Abschluss mit dem finalen Review am IPR.

Im Rahmen der Technical Tours der IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2013) in Karlsruhe besuchten die Konferenzteilnehmer am 06.05.2013 das IPR.

Im Rahmen des bundesweit organisierten Girls´Day besuchte eine Gruppe von Schülerinnen aus baden-württembergischen Gymnasien am 25.04.2013 das IPR.

Stephan Puls, Benjamin Lotspeich und Heinz Wörn wurden auf der Konferenz INTELLI 2013 in Italien mit dem „Best Paper Award" für ihren Beitrag "Incorporating Online Process Mining Based on Context Awareness into Human-Robot-Cooperation Framework" ausgezeichnet.

Von 21. bis 26. April besuchten Professor Wörn und Stephan Puls die International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Applications (INTELLI 2013) in Venedig, Italien.

Auch in diesem Jahr betreute das IPR wieder eine Gruppe Gymnasiasten im Rahmen des BoGy-Praktikums.

Im Rahmen des KIT-Jahresempfangs am 21.03.2013 organisierte das IPR eine Führung durch die Labore für die Mitgliedsunternehmen des KIT-Business-Clubs.

Die jährliche Klausurtagung fand in diesem Jahr vom 13.03. bis 17.03.2013 auf Mallorca statt.

Am 12 März 2013 besuchten Fachleute der Firma Carl Zeiss Meditec aus Oberkochen das IPR, um sich über die Forschungen des IPR auf dem Gebiet der Medizintechnik zu erkundigen.

Stephan Irgenfried nahm an der Konferenz „Optical Characterization of Materials (OCM 2013)“ vom 6.03 bis 7.03 am Fraunhofer IOSB in Karlsruhe teil.

Am 7. März besuchten Stipendiaten der Hans-Böckler-Stiftung das IPR. Dr. Jörg Raczkowsky empfing die Gruppe und gab eine kurze Einführung in die Forschungsaktivitäten des IPR.

With his lecture „On-line visualization and analysis of multispectral data in industry“, Mr. Stephan Irgenfried presented research results from the cooperation with the Fraunhofer IOSB, at the 16th SpectroNet Collaboration Forum Karlsruhe, IOSB, 5th March 2013.

With his lecture „Tactile proximity sensors for robotic applications” (authors: Dirk Goeger, Hosam Alagi and Prof. Heinz Woern) at the IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT 2013 ) in Cape Town, south Africa, on the 26th February 2013, Prof. Wörn presented research results from the project relating to the tactile space resolving proximity sensors.

Yaokun Zhang presented research results from the OCT-LABS project with his lecture „History compounding: a novel speckle reduction technique for OCT guided cochleostomy“ at the SPIE Photonics West 2013 conference in San Francisco on the 4th February 2013.

At the end of January 2013, our long standing and respected employee Hartmut Regner entered the “Freistellungsphase” of the “Altersteilzeit”.

Das jährliche Institutskolloquium fand am 19. Dezember im Seminarraum des IPR statt. Die 3 Professoren am IPR berichteten über den wichtigsten Ereignisse aus ihren Forschungsgruppen im Jahr 2012.

Dr. Oliver Weede and Mr. Rene Matthias represented the IPR at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO 2012). The conference took place in Guangzhou, China, December 2012. 

At the beginning of December 2012, a delegation from the Ural Federal University (UrFU, Jekaterinburg) visited the KIT and the IPR.

Mr. Yaokun Zhang recieved the „Best Paper Award" (Gold) for his paper "Optical coherence tomography as a tracking device for OCT guided laser cochleostomy: algorithm and first results", at the 11th annual conference of the German Society for Computer and Robot aided Surgery (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Computer- und Roboterassistierte Chirurgie e. V) (CURAC2012 ), in the course of the MEDICA in Düsseldorf (15.-16.11.2012).

On the 7th September 2012, Mr. Stephan Irgenfried gave a lecture on the topic "Hyperspektrale Materialeigenschaften - Messen, Speichern, Analysieren" at the VISION trade fair in Stuttgart, in the VISION Innovation Lounge.

In the context of the scientific cooperation between KIT and KIST in the field of surgical robotics, Dr. Jörg Raczkowsky, Mr. Yaokun Zhang and Mr. Christoph Ledermann traveled to Seoul, to work at the KIST.

Dr. Oliver Weede passed his doctoral exam with the topic „Wissensbasierte Planung für die minimal-invasive Chirurgie“. The staff of the IPR congratulates him and wishes him the best for his future.

On the 13th of October, the IPR-Alumni-Meeting took place in the course of the Faculty of Informatics 40th anniversary celebrations (40-Jahr-Feier der Fakultät für Informatik).

Following the slogan “Workers of tomorrow – Robots in medicine and the industry”, guided tours through the laboratories of the IPR were hold, and current research projects were demonstrated.

Prof. Heinz Wörn and Mr. Tim Beyl attended the IROS2012 conference from the 7th to 12th October in Vilamoura, Portugal.

On the 18th July 2012, in the course of the summer term 2012 Informatik-colloquium, Dr. Hein held his inaugural lecture with the topic: “Robot programming for dummies ?! - Methods for assisted robot programming and control”.

At this year’s IEEE/ASME internal conference on mechatronic and embedded systems and applications (MESA12, 8-10 July, China), our research associate Christoph Ledermann received the “Best Student Paper Award”.

At the World Automation Congress 2012, Prof. Heinz Wörn and Dr. Thomas Haase were honored with the best paper award (1st place) for their paper “Force Approximation and Tactile Sensor Prediction For Reactive Grasping”.

At the lecture „Force Approximation and Tactile Sensor Prediction For Reactive Grasping“ (Authors: Prof. H. Wörn and Dr. T. Haase) at the World Automation Congress 2012 (WAC 2012) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico at the 25th of June 2012, Prof. H. Wörn presented research results from a shared project with our industrial partner SCHUNK.

Last Saturday (23June, 23rd 2012) the IPR was repre-sented indirectly at the Young Researchers Festival. The IPR supervised a group of students from the Otto-Hahn Gymnasium with the design of an arena for swarm robotics.

Marco Adorni, a student at the “Deutsche Schule Genua (Scuola Germanica di Genova)“ participated in a two week internship at the IPR. 

On the 22nd – 25th May 2012, the IPR was represented with the mobile service robot at this year’s 6th international exhibition for automation and mechatronics (AUTOMATICA ) in Munich.

Prof. Heinz Wörn and Jan Hergenhan attended the ICRA2012 -conference on the 14th – 18th May 2012, in St. Paul, Minneapolis, USA.

The Max-Syrbe-Colloquium - Anthropomatics and Automation, takes place on the 10th of May 2012 at the Fraunhofer IOSB.

Dr. Alexander Kettler passed his doctoral exam with the topic „Werkzeug für den Entwurf und die Analyse von Algorithmen in der Kollektiven Robotik“.

The first review meeting of the EU project ACTIVE was held in Karlsruhe on the 12th – 13th of April 2012. Everything worked out fine and both project partners and EU-reviewers were highly pleased.

In the course of the BoGy - practical course, 5 students from different schools were guests at the IPR for 3 days.

In the course of the 42nd congress of the German Society for Endoscopy and Imaging Techniques, the DFG research group „Single-Port” presented the current status of work.

Prof. Wörn and the staff of the IPR went to their annual staff retreat from 15th – 20th of March. This year’s location was Malta. The doctoral candidates had the possibility to present their research work in a speech with a subsequent discussion and talk about it with the group.

Following an invitation of the KIT, a high-ranking delegation of the Faculty for Special Needs and Rehabilitation from the Kyambogo University in Uganda, visited the IPR on the 14th of March 2012.

In the course of a tour through Germany, a delegation from the Ufa State Aviation Technical University (USATU) visited the KIT and the IPR, on the 6th of March 2012. 

Dr. Jörg Raczkowsky, Dr. Björn Hein and Dipl.-Inform. Med. Luzie Schreiter attended the European Robotic Forum 2012 in Denmark Odense, on the 5th - 7th of March. 

Prof. Heinz Wörn and Stefan Escaida attended the HAPTICS Symposium 2012 on the 3rd - 7th of March in Vanouver. 

Again this year, at the 5th SCHUNK Expert Days on the 29th of February and the 1st of March, the IPR was represented with their mobile service robot SR1

On January, 28 the participants of the first international workshop on Cognitive Robotics in Surgery of the IARP in Heidelberg visited the laboratories of the IPR, to get an idea of the recent research at the IPR in the field of medical robotics.

From January, 26 to January, 28 the first international workshop on Cognitive Robotics in Surgery of the International Advanced Robotics Programme (IARP) took place in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe.

Philip Nicolai, Tim Beyl, Holger Mönnich, Jörg Raczkowsky and Heinz Wörn were awarded “Finalists of Best Video“ for their video "OP:Sense – An integrated rapid development environment in the context of robot assisted surgery and operation room sensing" at the IEEE ROBIO 2011 conference. The video won second place.

5 members of the scientific staff of the IPR took part at this year’s IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO 2011).

The annual colloquium of the IPR took place December 20, 2011.
Prof. Wörn reported on occurrences in teaching and research in the year 2011.

Together with the project partners of VisionTools the project CADaVISION was presented at the Technology Day IBV of the VDMA on December 2, 2011 as the example of a successfully carried out research project of the program “SME-innovative” of the BMBF.

Stephan Irgenfried presented our institute and latest research results to the members of the “Industrial image processing”-group of the VDMA at the Technology Day IBV of the VDMA.

In the talk „Motion Control and Reactive Grasping Skill Concepts for the Multi-fingered SDH2“, Prof. Wörn presented research results from the shared project with industrial partner SCHUNK, at the ICMT2011 in Melbourne on December 1st, 2011.

On the 21th of November, a delegation from Thailand visited the IPR and found out about the latest research in the field of medical robotics
