School visit from Gymnasium Achern
The 10th grade of the Gymnasium Achern visited IPR on 13 November 2019 to gain an insight into the exciting field of robotics research.
First, the students were allowed to control a Universal Robot 5 themselves in the robot hall. Xi Huang also provided them with an insight into his research on safe human-robot collaboration.
After that, they went on to Wolfgang Wiedmeyer, who introduced them to the Robot Learning Lab. The robots in this lab can be controlled by students and researchers via the Internet. It enables people who do not have their own robot to carry out experiments on real hardware.
After a lunch break, Christian Kunz presented the medicine laboratory. In this lab, for example, research is done on how CT images can be virtually placed over a patient's body.
Finally, Alexander Cebulla, supported by master student Fabian Reister and research assistant Philipp Pelcz, held a presentation about the current state of robotics. In addition, pros and cons of self-learning robots were discussed with the students.
The visit was organized by Woo-Jeong Baek and Alexander Cebulla.
