For micro surgical function preserving operations at the skull base an accurate removement of the bony structure is needed. For example the destruction of the membrane inside the cochlear may lead to deafness or vertigo. The aim of this project is a accurate navigated removement of the bone with a laser for future development.
Bone is removed by a sequential scan cycle of a predefined pattern with a laser. The laser beam will be controlled through image processing with respect to local conditions of the bone (thickness, ...). Because the laser cutting is contactless there will be no preasure or irritations of the surrounding structures. Also angular surfaces and hard bones are no problem.
