The goal of the project is to navigate an endoscope and to integrate at the same time in its video Augmented Reality information coming from preoperative CT/MRI data to be used as a further reference. The COMPU-SURGE/NEAR project belongs to the European Marie Curie Actions in the framework FP6. According to its interdisciplinary approach, the project consists of a tandem composed by a surgeon and a medical engineer working together. One of the most performed surgery is endoscopic minimally invasive surgery (MIS) which allows to operate the human body accessing through small skin incisions. The COMPU-SURGE/NEAR project aims to develop an optical navigated endoscope for applications like Third-Ventriculostomy for hydrocephalus or cyst fenestration. The objective of the project is to create an active endoscope able to support the surgeon with planning, navigation, augmented and virtual reality, triangulation and 3D reconstruction.
