Computer Aided Acquisition of Wound Surfaces with Camera and Laser Scanner

Objective of this project, which is funded by Baden-Württemberg, is the three-dimensional computer aided acquisition of chronic wounds with a laser scanner. Thereby, the focus lies on recording and documenting characteristic wound data and analyzing their healing processes. The applied laser scanner allows acquiring three-dimensional surfaces as point clouds and an a corresponding non-parallaxed color image which can be used as texture after point cloud triangulation. The developed system enables the physician to get a three-dimensional wound recording over a period of several weeks. Furthermore, the underlying point cloud processing software provides tools to automatically reconstruct the real skin surface. By this means, characteristic wound data like wound and swell volume as well as wound and swell surface can be calculated and documented.
